WELCOME TOÂ THE HRLMGIRL PROJECT, INC.
ABOUT
The HrlmGirl Project (THGP) a 501c3 organization was founded with the idea of exploring the impact and importance of travel on how we learn, cultural understanding, and self-development. Based in Atlanta with roots in Harlem, THGP's primary goal is to open up the global community to teenage girls from Harlem and Georgia, by curating travel experiences with culture, community service and education behind each passport stamp.
OUR PROGRAMS
TRAVEL
Our marquee program exposes high school girls in Harlem, NY and Gwinnett County, GA to international travel and service. THGP's travel program runs from January through June and culminates with a 5-7 day trip designed to immerse students in local activities and volunteer projects abroad. Volunteerism, cultural exposure, and exciting excursions allow participants to learn about the world first-hand. Each year applications will open in November for participation the next year. Returning students will receive priority but we will be open to accept new students.
PASSPORT SPONSORSHIP
On January 10, 2022 our Founder lost her mother. Veronica Adams was a pre-k teacher for over 20 years in Harlem, NY and travel was her second passion. In her honor we have renamed our passport scholarship to the Veronica Adams Passport Fund. This program will sponsor high school girls in need of their first passport. Applications will be availble shortly. It is our goal to give all students access to travel no matter their economic status.
TUTORING AND MENTORSHIP
With help from our partnerships with local organizations and volunteers, students who have been accepted to our travel program have the opportunity to utilize our support services, which include mentorship and tutoring. Once a week, following the school calendar year for the respective city, students can sit with a tutor for an hour, to get help with their classroom studies. While our program's main objective is to open the door to out of the class learning, we understand the importance of not just passing but excelling in classes. This program will also be available to local high school students for a small fee. One key focus of The HrlmGirl Project is to help raise well-rounded young women.
PROM DRESS GIVEAWAY
This program is designed to provide prom dresses to teenage girls whose families were financially challenged. While priority will be given to girls enrolled in our travel program, we will open this program up to high school seniors in the community. Each giveaway site will be set up like a boutique with dress racks and accessory departments. Girls will receive help shopping with the goal of creating an extra special experience for them.
